Unit 15 – Managing Business Activities To Achieve Results

INTRODUCTION

An organization is required to develop a number of business processes to improve effectiveness and efficiency of its overall performance. This is required to avoid any deficits in present and future operations of business. Thus, there are a number of activities related with strategic development of business which have to be considered by organization to ensure smooth flow of major organizational operations (McCormack, 2001).

This report highlights case study of ABC Company which is undergoing poor results of its business activities. ABC Company is facing poor management and leadership outcomes within its major business operations which are providing disappointing results to company. It is required to adopt a revamp strategy in order to revive its overall business structure. This, report attempts to discuss importance of business processes in delivering outcomes successfully and develop plans for an area of responsibility. It also explains appropriate systems to monitor improvement in organizational performance as well as managing health and safety at workplace.

Relationship between Different Functions

The above organizational chart reveals different departments which are responsible for performing different functions and processes in ABC Company. The Chair and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the owner and head of organization. It ensures that company is running strategically towards corporate goals and objectives. Its function is to ensure the outcomes of management as well as results in financial terms. Executive manager operates under CEO whose major function is to devise strategy and operations of overall organization with the help of CEO. These objectives and strategies are effectively implemented by all the departments under Executive manager (Grover and Markus, 2008).

Operations department undertakes activities of prospecting, recruiting and selection of candidates for clients. This department remains in direct contact with executive manager so that clients can be handled in the most appropriate manner while fulfilling the individual needs. Finance and accounting department is responsible for managing all the transactions related with inflow and outflow of cash in all terms. They are directly in touch with executive manager as well as Chain so that major financial decisions related to expansion and market development can be undertaken (Nanda, 2005). Administration department handles reception and arrangement of venues and following procedures for candidates and it is directly in touch with operations department.

Marketing department is responsible for managing all the activities related to marketing of services offered by ABC Company. This department is directly in touch with executive manger as well as CEO so that strategic marketing objectives and goals can be fulfilled.

  • Identify Business Objectives – Business objectives of ABC Company have to be identified and this is the function of Chair and CEO of company. These are the objectives that draw the basis of firm’s existence and they have to be well integrated with all the major functions of organization. They can be to obtain proficiency in recruitment and selection of candidates for all types of clients with a sound system of conducting interviews and selection of candidates (Raynus, 2011).
  • Identify Goals – Identifying goals is majorly performed by executive manger of ABC Company and his duty is to break the major objectives of company into smaller and achievable goals. Goals have to be smart and action oriented. Goals of ABC Company is to ensure satisfaction of clients by delivering everything they need in the cost effective manner (Cadwell, 2006).
  • Identify Key Performance Indicators – Key performance indicators of ABC Company are competent and dedicated human resource as well as its stakeholders that help company grow in industry. The clientele of company also acts as a key performance indicator in both short and long run (Jensen, 2011).
  • Identify Targets – Targets have to be based on key performance indicators and for ABC Company. Every department in company has targets related with functions they are carrying out. For example, marketing department has the target of attracting 10 candidates every week on an average (Jensen, 2011).
  • Identify Valuable Segments – This is done by executive manger with the help of Chair. Identifying valuable segments involve understanding needs of clients and targeting the same within different segments. For example, geographical and demographic segmentation of markets can be profitable in terms of recruitment and selection of candidates (Raynus, 2011).

Elements required in building quality gateway is shown and discussed while focusing on output of process as under:

  • Planning – Planning is one of the most important elements of quality gateway of ABC Company. Company has to develop business and management models with sound business planning which has to be implemented through various approaches and methodologies. This will ensure quality in organizational activities (Cadwell, 2006).
  • Doing – This requires organization to implement the approach adopted and selected during planning. This also involves achieving the results while controlling performance of employees in ABC Company. Management of company also performs activities of correcting any deviations and wrong actions of employees (Randhawa, 2007).
  • Checking – This involves assessing and reviewing the performance of employees working in all departments. For this, there are various methods adopted by managers such as management by objectives, 360 Degree evaluation of performance etc. It helps in understanding the direction of actions performed by employees (Bass, 2012).
  • Acting – This is also an effective and important element of quality gateway of ABC Company. This involves managers preventing any wrong actions performed by employees and further taking measures to correct them. It also encompasses ensuring sound communication between levels of management to avoid confusion (Randhawa, 2007).
