A) Using examples from your present organisation (or one you are familiar with) explain the nature of the commitment represented by Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Your examples must describe how the underpinning principles of CSR are (or could be) demonstrated by your organisation.

B) Explain how the organisation’s commitment to ethical business operations influences the role and responsibilities of facilities managers.

Sustainability may be defined as a balancing act which places more emphasis on meeting the development needs without affecting the well-being of the future generations. In the present era, there are several undesirable activities take place in environment which closely influence the well-being of present and future generations. In this, every single business organization has responsibility to manufacture and offer products or services in such a way which may result into sustainable environment (Wilhelm and Blome, 2016). For this question, Morrison has been selected which is one of the largest British multinational retailer of UK. It offers wide range of products or services by making focus on the concept of sustainable environment.

In the highly competitive business arena, company can build or sustain distinct image in the mind of several stakeholders when they perform their responsibility towards the society. Now, awareness of the customers towards the environmental protection and society welfare is continuously increasing.

In this, they prefer to purchase products or services from the retailer who makes their vital contribution in the programs of society welfare. By taking into account this aspect, Morrison follows all the principles of corporate social responsibilities (CSR) for enhancing their corporate image.

For instance: Through the means of vertical integration, Morrison’s has made contribution in welfare of framers by working with them. Morrison’s do not buy raw products from the framers but it works with them to improve the business aspects of both.  This is turn, helps business unit in reducing the food wastage at farm level. Further, Morrison continuously makes focus on conducting research and development activity with the aim to assess the alternative ways of production. This in turn, helps business organization in performing their activities in an effectual manner which may result into less pollution.

Along with this, company also makes emphasis on the economical packaging style in order to reduce the level of environmental pollution to the great extent (CSRHUB. Online, 2018). Corporation also produces and offers product or services according to the needs, wants and expectations of the customers. It also provides high quality and hygienic food products or services to the customers which raises their living standard to the great extent.

Morrison’s has introduced some rules and practices which ensures accountability, fairness and transparency in the relationship of the company with other stakeholders.

Roles and responsibilities which are performed by the facility managers are highly influenced from the ethical commitment of the business organization. In order to build effectual corporate image Morrison has made some ethical commitments such as CSR activities, Go Green concept, product quality, consumer safety (Business Ethics, 2018 .Online).

In this regard, facility manager requires to perform their activities in such a manner which aid in the growth and success of firm. Facility manager has responsibility to make effective and integrated management of the people, process, place and technology. Such manager also has accountability to comply with the laws and legislation which are framed by UK government.

Hence, according to the ethical commitments of Morrison, facilities managers   has accountability to assess the better ways for managing the waste material (UNDERSTANDING THE UK GREENHOUSE GAS INVENTORY, 2016, Online).

Besides this, facilities managers at Morrison need to identify and adopt the latest technology which provides assistance in saving both energy and water to the large extent. Hence, facilities managers play a vital role in reducing the emission of CO2 or pollution, power usage, wastage by making use of environmental friendly approaches.

Head of facilities at Morrison has already taken action or move towards the concept of green retailing by making use of several eco-friendly approaches. In addition to this, every facilities manager is accountable for offering the safe, best and high quality products or services to the customers (Waste to Energy: The Carbon Perspective, 2018,Online). For this purpose, facilities manager is required to make continuous monitoring of the production activities for reducing the undesirable activities.

Thus, at Morrison all facilities managers have role to offer high level of protection to the customers through both manufacturing and business activities. He also provides protection to the customers by setting the fair prices for the products or services. All these roles and responsibilities which are performed by the facilities managers help in maximizing the productivity and profitability along with the Morrison brand image (Thomas Hobbs. 2016. It can be concluded that by performing the corporate social responsibility   business unit is able to enhance their financial aspects and brand image. Besides this, it can be concluded that facilities management of Morrison has performed its business operations in terms of ethical commitment in an effectual manner (Packaging waste: producer responsibilities, 2018, Online). It can be stated that company needs to make their best possible efforts for saving the natural resources.

By this, company can make contribution in the economic growth to the large extent. Further, due to activities and planning of facility manager problems in relation to resource depletion, gases, pollution etc. Thus, by adopting the UK laws and legislation business unit can mitigate the pollution in the best possible manner.
